Short
Term Health
Insurance
We
realize that many people, for one reason or another, need health
care protection for a short period of time. Just graduating from
school, between jobs, your new job has a waiting period before
coverage is available, whatever the reason, we can help. Short
Term Medical coverage (also called bridge coverage) can protect
you in the event of an unexpected illness or injury. Short term
health insurance is not designed to be permanent coverage. It is
designed to cover a policyholder through a brief gap in standard
health coverage. They're generally available for between one and
twelve months, and they offer many of the same benefits that
standard plans do, with a few key differences.
Because most short term health insurance policies are indemnity
plans (fee-for-service), preventative and routine care (like
check-ups) won't be covered, nor will most policies dental or
vision care. Services traditionally covered by short term health
policies include emergency coverage, hospital inpatient
services, emergency services, and prescription drugs. Keep in
mind, these services are covered AFTER you pay a deductible and
then you are responsible for some part of the cost of the
services provided (called co-insurance).
Think
of a short term health policy as backstop – it is there to help
with the big medical expenses while you take care of the day to
day issues.
Confused by the jargon - deductibles, coinsurance, indemnity
plans, etc? Don’t worry. Sometimes it confuses us, too. Just
